11 Representatives Invited for Talks After Brief Scuffle in Shillong

Hundreds of residents from Lapangap village, accompanied by members of various organisations from West Jaintia Hills, marched to the Additional Secretariat on Wednesday demanding that the government address their concerns. Following the protest, the government agreed to hold discussions with the demonstrators. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar invited 11 representatives of the protestors for talks to listen to their demands. The protest drew large participation from residents and pressure groups, highlighting growing tensions over issues concerning Lapangap village.

183 cases settled in Lok Adalat in Shillong

Altogether 183 cases for a total amount of Rs 1.35 lakh was settled in a National Lok Adalat organised in Meghalaya High Court and all districts of the state on Saturday. A total of 625 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat. “242 pre-litigation cases and 383 pending cases were taken up for settlement,” the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority said in a statement.

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department on Thursday announced an emergency shutdown of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme for 12 hours on May 1, 2026, due to urgent maintenance work.
