73rd North Eastern Council planery session to be attended by Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the 73rd plenary session of the NEC. Union DONER Minister, governors and chief ministers of all the Northeastern states will also discuss issues related to the development of the region. East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters that all security arrangements have been made for themeeting in the city. Additional forces will be deployed to ensure law and order during the meeting, he added.

The MDA government has rejected claims that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department violated norms to award Rs 1,900-crore projects to a firm from outside Meghalaya, with Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla asserting that the tender process was transparent and criteria-based. Meghalaya Police arrested two persons during a late-night naka checking operation in East Jaintia Hills district and seized 30,000 explosive detonators. According to a press release issued by East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Raksania, the interception took place at around 2:30 am on May 13 at 2 Kilo in Umkiang village under the Umkiang PPP naka point. Police stopped a suspicious white Hyundai Eon bearing registration number AS-10-A-5916 that was heading towards Silchar from Meghalaya. The central body of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) along with its Sohra Circle on Tuesday met Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh to express concern over the operation of trucks from outside the state in limestone transportation at Majai Land Custom Station (LCS) in Shella.
