National People’s Party celebrates 14th Foundation Day in Shillong

The National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday marked its 14th foundation day, with Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader Prestone Tynsong reflecting on the party’s journey, its growth and the challenges it faced since assuming power in Meghalaya.

The occasion also coincided with the birth anniversary of the party’s founder, late P. A. Sangma.

Speaking on the occasion, Tynsong described the NPP’s 14-year journey as a challenging one, particularly after the party took over the reins of government in Meghalaya in 2018.

“Today we are celebrating our 14 years journey, as well it so happened, it’s the birthday of our founder, Shri late P. A. Sangma. Let me just recall back, you know, now the 14 years journey that we completed is very challenging, no doubt about it,” Tynsong said

Recalling the party’s entry into government, he said the NPP’s responsibility increased significantly after 2018, when it became part of the government responsible for running the affairs of Meghalaya.

“And especially when we took over the government in 2018 to run the affairs of the state in Meghalaya, because this was the first state where we are jointly responsible for the running of the government,” he said.

Tynsong acknowledged that governing the state presented significant challenges but credited the party’s continued progress to the grace of the Almighty.

“So it is very, very challenging, no doubt about it. But by the grace of Almighty, we are as we are today,” he said.
He further said the party had grown and matured through its experiences over the past 14 years, particularly in its ability to confront and manage the challenges associated with governance.

“Right now I think we are more growing up, at the same time we are more matured also in facing those challenges,” Tynsong added.
The NPP was founded in 2012 by late P. A. Sangma with the objective of providing a political platform representing the interests of the Northeast.
