
Member of NITI Aayog, Government of India, Dr Joram Aniya visited the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre at NEHU in Shillong on Thursday morning to assess the sports facilities and infrastructure at the centre.
She was accompanied by Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Alertson Nongbri, Deputy Director P.B. War Nongbri, SAI officials, coaches and athletes.
During her visit, Dr Joram spent around two hours inspecting various sports facilities, including three grounds for football, athletics and archery.
She also visited the facilities for karate, sepak takraw, judo, boxing and the gymnasium.
Dr Joram also interacted with the young athletes and greeted them individually during her visit.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Joram said, “I have come to see the development of sports in Shillong.
Shillong is doing very well in sports, and I would like to see it do much better.
The purpose of my visit is to inspect the facilities and infrastructure at the SAI Centre at NEHU. I will also be assessing what needs to be upgraded at the centre.”
“Shillong will be hosting the National Games next year. My visit is also to inspect the preparations for the upcoming National Games,” she added.
