Umiam Bridge Bypass to open for heavy vehicles

The Umiam Bridge bypass will be inaugurated on May 13, opening the route for movement of commercial vehicles, including night buses, from Umiam towards Shillong with effect from May 14. Ahead of the inauguration, East Khasi Hills district administration on Tuesday said the newly constructed bypass will be opened for traffic movement subject to a set of restrictions and conditions. Commercial vehicles and night buses will be allowed to ply through the bypass only between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM daily. The administration has also barred the movement of articulated vehicles on the route.
