Tura Medical College to start functioning soon as institute starts professors’ recruitment

The Meghalaya government has launched a recruitment drive for 59 faculty positions at the upcoming Tura Medical College, signalling progress towards making the institution operational in the 2026-27 academic session. A notification issued by the state Health and Family Welfare Department on May 12 invited applications for 14 professor posts, 20 associate professor posts and 25 assistant professor posts across multiple medical disciplines. State govt orders major police reshuffle, transfers several IPS & MPS officers

The Meghalaya government on Tuesday ordered a major reshuffle in the Police department involving several IPS and MPS officers across the state. According to a notification issued by the Home (Police) Department, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Western Range), Jerry Fiscer K. Marak has been transferred and posted to the Eastern Range, Shillong. He will replace Vivekanand Singh who has been transferred to the Western Range. Umiam Bridge Bypass to open for heavy vehicles

The Umiam Bridge bypass will be inaugurated on May 13, opening the route for movement of commercial vehicles, including night buses, from Umiam towards Shillong with effect from May 14. Ahead of the inauguration, East Khasi Hills district administration on Tuesday said the newly constructed bypass will be opened for traffic movement subject to a set of restrictions and conditions. Commercial vehicles and night buses will be allowed to ply through the bypass only between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM daily. The administration has also barred the movement of articulated vehicles on the route. Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari on Tuesday said the Election Department is fully prepared to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Meghalaya once the schedule is announced by the Election Commission of India. Speaking to reporters, Tiwari said the department was awaiting official notification from the Commission and assured that the revision process would be conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
