UNION MINISTER MANSUKH MANDAVIYA ATTENDS ‘SUNDAYS ON CYCLE’ RALLY IN SHILLONG

The Fit India Movement under Khelo India and the Sports Authority of India organised a special edition of “Sundays on Cycle” at the State Central Library premises in Shillong today, drawing enthusiastic participation from youth, sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts.
Union Minister for youth affairs and sports dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse participated in the event.
The cycling rally was flagged off by Meghalaya State Olympic Association working president John F. Kharshiing.
The rally commenced from the State Central Library premises and passed through key locations including the DC Office, Ward’s Lake, Lok Bhavan and Civil Hospital before returning to the starting point.
The initiative forms part of the nationwide Fit India Movement aimed at encouraging citizens to adopt an active lifestyle and make fitness a daily habit. Through events such as “Sundays on Cycle”, the government seeks to promote physical well-being while also encouraging eco-friendly modes of transport.
Speaking to mediapersons later, Mandaviya highlighted the importance of cycling in maintaining good health and reducing dependence on fuel. Referring to global developments and energy concerns, he stressed that cycling can contribute to both personal fitness and environmental sustainability.
He urged people to dedicate at least one day every week to cycling and encouraged citizens to use bicycles during weekdays whenever possible.
