Meghalaya gets first Indoor Cricket Academy as PM Modi unveils major northeast sports push

A new chapter in Meghalaya’s cricket journey began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a modern Indoor Cricket Academy at Madan Kurkalang in Ri-Bhoi district. The facility, developed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is expected to strengthen cricket training in the state and provide young players with better opportunities to grow in the sport without having to leave Meghalaya for advanced coaching and practice facilities. The academy in Meghalaya is one of six new indoor cricket centres launched across the Northeast region. Similar academies have also been set up in Rangpo in Sikkim, Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh, Imphal in Manipur, Aizawl in Mizoram and Dimapur in Nagaland. IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Meghalaya till May 1; Disaster Teams on Standby

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Meghalaya warning of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the State from April 28 to May 1. People have been urged by officials to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the period. “Most parts of the state are expected to witness thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds of 50-60 kmph,” an official said. People have been advised to secure loose materials such as tin sheets, bricks and signage that could be blown away during strong winds. Electrical appliances, the advisory said, need to be switched off during lightning activity to reduce the risk of damage or injury.
