Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has strongly reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy regarding any form of misconduct or harassment against women athletes. The statement comes in the wake of serious allegations of sexual harassment involving women cricketers in the state.
Reports have emerged alleging that former officials of the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) failed to take appropriate action when complaints were initially raised. Addressing these concerns, Minister Shylla emphasized that the administration is deeply committed to ensuring a safe environment for athletes, asserting that such incidents will not be tolerated in cricket or any other sporting discipline.
The state government is currently maintaining a cautious approach as formal investigations unfold. Minister Shylla noted that the administration will await the official outcome of the ongoing inquiries before releasing further comments or taking definitive executive action.
Meanwhile, multiple bodies have already stepped in to investigate the matter. The Meghalaya Cricket Association has constituted an internal inquiry committee to probe the allegations from within. Concurrently, the Meghalaya State Commission for Women has actively intervened, officially seeking clarification on the situation to ensure accountability and justice for the affected athletes.
