A court in Shillong has granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, after observing serious procedural lapses in the manner in which the grounds of her arrest were communicated to her by the police.The order was passed on Monday by the court of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) DR Kharbteng while hearing Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail application in connection with the high-profile murder case linked to Sohra in Meghalaya. A new chapter in Meghalaya’s cricket journey began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a modern Indoor Cricket Academy at Madan Kurkalang in Ri-Bhoi district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Meghalaya warning of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the State from April 28 to May 1. People have been urged by officials to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the period. “Most parts of the state are expected to witness thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds of 50-60 kmph,” an official said. People have been advised to secure loose materials such as tin sheets, bricks and signage that could be blown away during strong winds. Electrical appliances, the advisory said, need to be switched off during lightning activity to reduce the risk of damage or injury. A 21-member team of Meghalaya officers visited London recently as part of training on urban management strategy. An official source said the four-day training on 'Shillong Urban Strategy 'was hosted by London School of Economics. Deputy commissioners were also part of the delegation. Sources said that with the challenges in waste management, sewage system, polluted rivers and traffic congestion coupled with absence of open space and aversion to public transport system, how the training abroad will help in achieving the dream of a livable city.
