Meghalaya CM Condemns Harassment of Two Northeast Women in Delhi

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condemned the alleged harassment of two women from the Northeast in Delhi. “Condemn the physical and racial harassment of two North East women in South Delhi. Such repeated acts of violence and discrimination cannot be dismissed as isolated incidents and must be met with the strictest punishment under the law. Urge the authorities to take immediate action,” the Chief Minister said. Two women from Assam and Nagaland have alleged harassment and physical assault by a group of men in Delhi’s Nehru Place, raising concerns over the safety of Northeast residents in the national capital.

According to the victims, the incident took place early Sunday morning when they had stepped out for tea after their night shifts. They alleged that a group of seven men passed lewd remarks, harassed them and later physically assaulted them. One of the women claimed the accused also touched them inappropriately and tore her clothes during the attack. The victims further alleged that police response was delayed despite repeated appeals for help. An FIR was reportedly registered only after intervention from the Northeast Special Police Unit, but no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
