Meghalaya CM Reviews Key Urban Development Projects in Tura

A review meeting on the redevelopment of Tura town was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in the presence of Cabinet Ministers Timothy D. Shira and Sanbor Shullai. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and discussed the plan for upcoming works to be implemented in phases. Ongoing projects with a total investment of over Rs 1331 crore were reviewed. These include the Tura Integrated Administrative Complex (Rs 165 crore), expected to be completed in phases starting September 2027, the PA Sangma Sports Complex and its West Stand, the Pa Togan Sangma Track and Field Stadium, and the Tura Technology Park.

Other ongoing works include the beautification of Tura Bazaar, construction of a Convention Centre, Pelga Tourist Circuits and Hospitality Complex, Working Women’s Hostel, heliport development, and the Tura Water Supply Scheme. The redevelopment of Polo Orchid Hotel is expected to begin soon. Projects worth Rs 242.74 crore that are ready for tender were also reviewed. These will be taken up in phases and include redevelopment of Najing Bazaar, a multi-level parking and cinema complex at SMELC, Tura City Park, an Active Ageing Centre, a Kids Zone at Araimile, and the Tura Promenade.

Other planned works include the Chief Minister’s Youth Centre, the renovation of the Circuit House, a commercial complex, the installation of street lighting, and the development of sports facilities at Kendriya Vidyalaya. Projects at the conceptual stage, estimated at Rs 155 crore, include affordable housing, an archery complex and additional commercial infrastructure. The total planned investment for the redevelopment of Tura is about Rs 1928 crore. The Chief Minister stressed the need for timely completion of projects and better coordination between departments.
