Shree Cement deepens Meghalaya footprint with healthcare and community development initiatives

Shree Cement has expanded its community development efforts in Meghalaya with a stronger focus on healthcare access, launching a vision screening programme and preparing to introduce ambulance services in remote areas of the state.

The company recently organised a vision screening project in villages around its project area, where residents underwent comprehensive eye examinations. The initiative resulted in corrective spectacles being prescribed to a significant number of beneficiaries, while others requiring specialised care were referred for further medical treatment. The programme aims to address the shortage of routine eye care services in rural communities, where timely diagnosis and intervention can improve productivity, educational outcomes and overall well-being.

Further strengthening its healthcare outreach, Shree Cement is planning to deploy ambulance services to improve emergency medical access and patient transportation in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure.

According to a company spokesperson, the initiative reflects Shree Cement’s broader approach to sustainable development by combining healthcare, education, energy access and community welfare to support long-term socio-economic growth in Meghalaya.

In Shillong, the company’s continued investments in healthcare and social infrastructure underscore the growing role of corporate social responsibility in regional development. Industry observers believe such interventions can help enhance workforce participation, improve living standards and create a more supportive environment for economic growth in and around Shillong.

The healthcare programme builds on Shree Cement’s existing initiatives in partnership with the GHE Foundation and local stakeholders, including solar village electrification, clean cooking solutions and solar-powered digital education infrastructure across Meghalaya.
