The official X account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a viral satirical political outfit, has been officially banned in India after a formal legal demand. A restriction notice began appearing across the region on the account, which is run under the handle @CJP_2029, on May 21, 2026. The abrupt digital blockade came just hours after the parody movement saw a rapid surge in popularity, gaining more than 14 million followers on Instagram and overtaking the follower counts of India’s mainstream political entities, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The movement was started by political communication strategist Abhijeet Dipke following a public controversy over remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant on unemployed youth. Promising a tongue-in-cheek “union of lazy, unemployed cockroaches”, the group quickly found favour with Gen Z internet users with sharp, meme-based political commentary and a satirical legislative manifesto. Dipke confirmed the block in a follow-up post on his personal timeline, stating that it was no surprise considering the growth rate of the movement that the move was coming. In an effort to maintain momentum and avoid the ban, organizers set up an alternate account called “Cockroach is Back,” which quickly gained thousands of new followers in the first few hours. X says, for its part, that it restricts access to certain content in certain jurisdictions only when required to do so by valid requests from authorized local entities.
