An FIR has been filed against an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer in Meghalaya following an allegation of assault during questioning in connection with a case related to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). Advocate Niksrang Ch. Marak lodged the complaint at Nongmynsong Police Station on behalf of his client, Sansilstone Sangma, who alleged that ED Investigating Officer Shekar Kumar physically assaulted him on August 27 while his statement was being recorded after he was summoned for questioning. According to the complaint, Sangma was cooperating with the questioning and the alleged use of force was unwarranted and disproportionate. He reportedly suffered pain and swelling in his forearm and hand and subsequently received treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong. The lawyer has requested police to collect medical records, injury reports and prescriptions and to immediately preserve CCTV footage from the ED premises, including relevant rooms, corridors and entry and exit points. He has also sought the identification and examination of ED officials, staff and other persons who may have been present during the alleged incident. The complaint states that the allegations may disclose cognizable offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, with the applicable sections to be determined based on medical evidence, CCTV footage and witness statements. The lawyer has called for a fair and impartial investigation, preservation of electronic and documentary evidence, and appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible. The allegations remain subject to investigation and verification by the authorities.
