The Meghalaya government has constituted a four-member enquiry committee to investigate the alleged refusal of admission of a child with suspected rabies at Tura Civil Hospital earlier this week. The order, issued by the Directorate of Health Services (MI), follows reports in the digital media highlighting the incident that reportedly occurred on April 25.
According to the official notification, the committee will be headed by Dr. Sombari Boro, Joint Director of Health Services (Garo Hills Division). Other members include Dr. Perosh Marak, Joint Director of Health Services (MCH&FW); Dr. Cruzie N. Sangma, District Medical and Health Officer of East Garo Hills; and Dr. Valerie Laloo, State Surveillance Officer under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
The committee has been tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the alleged denial of admission at Tura Civil Hospital. It will also examine whether there were any lapses, negligence, or dereliction of duty on the part of medical personnel involved. Officials have directed the panel to submit its report within seven days.
