A crucial high-level meeting between Assam and Meghalaya is underway at Koinadhara State Guest House in Khanapara, Guwahati, to discuss the prevailing situation at Jorabat and the growing tensions between the two neighbouring states.
The meeting is being attended by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora. The Chief Secretaries of both states, along with other senior government officials, are also participating in the discussions.
The meeting assumes significance amid disruptions to vehicular movement and heightened tensions in the Jorabat area.
The two governments are expected to deliberate on measures to ease the situation, ensure the smooth movement of people and vehicles, and prevent further escalation along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
A joint press conference is scheduled to be held at 3 pm at Koinadhara, where the two sides are expected to brief the media on the outcome of the discussions.
