Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched what it describes as India’s first prepaid family plan, enabling customers to share mobile data with family members across the country through the Vi app.
The new proposition allows active Vi prepaid subscribers to create a family group of up to four members, comprising one primary member and three secondary members. Each member retains their individual prepaid plan and validity while gaining the flexibility to transfer 500 MB of data at a time to another family member running low on data.
The company said every family member would also receive guaranteed discounts of up to 10% on every recharge made through the Vi app. Customers can create family groups across telecom circles, add eligible members and access shared connectivity, family management features and exclusive rewards.
Commenting on the launch, Avneesh Khosla, chief marketing officer of Vi, said the initiative was aimed at making prepaid services more flexible and relevant to customers’ everyday needs. He said the proposition would enable families to remain connected and share data whenever required, regardless of their location.
The launch is supported by a new advertising campaign featuring Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The film highlights how the service can keep family members connected even when they live in different cities, reinforcing the company’s “Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP” brand promise.
The initiative seeks to introduce greater flexibility into the prepaid mobile segment by allowing families to manage connectivity collectively while retaining individual recharge plans.
