Nearly 1.5 lakh voters in Meghalaya have been identified under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) category as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, according to the latest status report issued by the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B.D.R. Tiwari.
The report revealed that 1,49,656 electors, representing 6.37 per cent of the state’s total electorate of 23,49,645, have been placed in the ASDD category following the verification exercise.
Among them, 74,851 electors have been identified as deceased, 37,914 have shifted from their registered addresses, 28,826 were found absent, and 5,899 names were flagged as duplicate entries. Additionally, 2,166 voters declined to submit their enumeration forms, election officials said.
The update comes a day before the completion of the house-to-house distribution and digitisation of enumeration forms under the Special Intensive Revision programme.
The Election Department has warned that voters who fail to submit their verified enumeration forms before the prescribed deadline may not find their names in the draft electoral roll, which is scheduled for publication on August 5.
Officials have appealed to electors to submit the completed forms either to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or through the online voter services portal without delay.
The report further stated that 99.62 per cent of enumeration forms have already been distributed, while 22,78,071 forms, accounting for 96.95 per cent, have been digitised across the state.
However, 2,24,435 forms (9.55 per cent) are yet to be geographically mapped. Ri-Bhoi district has recorded the highest proportion of pending geo-mapping at 23.45 per cent, followed by South West Khasi Hills with 14.53 per cent.
Election officials also noted that 10 of Meghalaya’s 12 districts have achieved 100 per cent distribution of enumeration forms, while East Khasi Hills continues to be the state’s largest electoral district with 6,32,146 registered voters.
