Meghalaya HC reviews NH-6 Jowai-Ratacherra status, seeks fresh reports by June 8; PWD told to fill potholes

The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday reviewed the status of work on the Jowai-Ratacherra section of NH-06 and directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the State to file fresh reports by June 8. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh was hearing PIL filed by Kynjaimon Amse, since deceased, against the NHAI and others. The order noted that the report “lists the steps taken by the NHAI with respect to the construction of work carried out on the Jowai-Ratacherra section of NH-06. It also lists the status of the three locations pointed out by the learned Amicus namely, Byndihati, Tonseng and Ratacherra.”

“It also appears that action has been taken against the contractors and penalty has been levied on them. It further appears that the slope stabilization work is awarded to a third contractor and the work is presently ongoing,” the Bench recorded.
