Assistive technology event highlights importance of inclusion in Shillong

An event on assistive technology was held at the State Central Library in Shillong, highlighting the role of technology in enabling persons with disabilities to live, learn and work with greater independence.

The event featured live demonstrations of various assistive devices aimed at addressing everyday challenges faced by persons with disabilities in areas such as education, communication, mobility and the workplace.

Speakers and participants emphasised that access to appropriate assistive technology goes beyond convenience, as it can help improve confidence, dignity and independent participation in everyday life.

The event also underlined the importance of making inclusion more meaningful by ensuring that persons with disabilities have access not only to opportunities but also to the tools and support required to make those opportunities accessible.

The programme carried the message that removing barriers can help create a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities can participate more independently and realise their full potential.
