Meghalaya Bar Association says AG charged different fee in commercial court

The Bar Associations have pointed out that Advocate General Amit Kumar charged Rs
1,50,000 per appearance in Commercial Court ( District Court).
The bill will be more than Rs 1 crore.

Addressing a press conference, lawyers Kishore Gautam and TL Jyrwa said that the Advocate General had publicly claimed that he never charged beyond the government-approved schedule of Rs 20,000 for high court and Rs 40,000 for Supreme Court.

The Association said the evidence came in a confidential envelope from an anonymous source.

“We received an envelope with some documents inside, perhaps by somebody which I don’t want to name, what was written on the envelope was the word confidential. When we opened it, we saw something which actually shocked us all,” said Gautam.

“This is in relation to our agitation which you are aware of for the last few months, we have been demanding removal of Amit Kumar as Advocate General,” he said.
