
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC) for Skill Development, Wahiajer, a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), successfully concluded a seven-day Skill Up-Gradation Training Programme on “Welding and Metal Fabrication Techniques” from June 5 to 12, 2026.
The programme was organized with the objective of equipping local youth with essential vocational skills to enhance their employability, economic independence, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. F. R. Sumer, Principal In-Charge, DDUCC, on June 5, 2026, at the college premises. Addressing the 26 participants representing various villages of the region, Dr. Sumer encouraged them to make the most of the intensive training through lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions conducted by resource persons Shri Eastern Talang (Skill Instructor) and Shri Sunny D. Blah (Technical Expert).
Coinciding with World Environment Day 2026, Dr. Sumer highlighted the importance of adopting environmentally responsible fabrication practices and emphasized the role of skilled fabrication in supporting sustainable infrastructure development. Referring to the United Nations Environment Programme’s theme, “Inspired by Nature.
For Climate. For Our Future,” he urged participants to embrace greener manufacturing practices and contribute to climate-resilient development.
The valedictory function was held on June 12, 2026, and was graced by Shri B. S. Wahlang, Superintending Engineer, Jaintia Hills Distribution Circle, MePDCL, Jowai, as the Chief Guest.
The programme was attended by Prof. S. R. Joshi, Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, NEHU, Shillong, as Patron, and Prof. H. Lamin (Retd.), Founder Principal In-Charge, DDUCC.
