Incidents of so-called influencers creating a ruckus are nothing new in India. But this time, an alleged influencer from India has embarrassed the country on foreign soil. A dispute over a child’s behavior at an Indian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, escalated to such an extent that authorities accused an Indian family of vandalizing restaurant property and threatening staff.
The incident took place at ‘Bombay Bites HCMC’, an Indian restaurant located in District-1, a tourist hub in Ho Chi Minh City. According to information shared by the restaurant management on social media, as soon as the family entered, the children began throwing tissue paper from the tables around the place.
Restaurant owner Manmeet Singh said that even after staff politely requested the children to stop, they continued the same behavior. He alleged that instead of restraining the children, the parents handed them more tissues. When staff intervened again, the family became agitated, damaged restaurant property, and misbehaved with employees.
Manmeet Singh’s wife Aishwarya Khanna Singh said that besides hurling abuses at the staff using obscene language, the family also damaged restaurant property. She added that the family tried to intimidate them by identifying themselves as “influencers.”
Aishwarya Khanna Singh made it clear that a restaurant is not a playground and staff are not targets for venting anger. According to her, social influence or popularity does not place anyone above basic etiquette. She said it is a parent’s primary responsibility to teach children accountability, respect for public property, and how to follow rules in public spaces.
Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to local police. Manmeet Singh said police have advised them to call immediately if the family returns to create further disturbance, in which case a formal case will be registered.
Manmeet Singh also stated that the accused family is from Delhi. He alleged that due to such behavior by some Indian tourists abroad, various countries are being forced to adopt a stricter stance toward Indian travelers. According to him, the family deleted their social media accounts after the incident.
After a video of the incident went viral on social media, widespread discussion has begun about tourist behavior, parents’ responsibility to teach children etiquette, and how hospitality industry workers should be treated.
