Vi-Spotify partnership reflects growing competition in India’s digital services economy

Vi’s strategic partnership with global audio streaming platform Spotify signals the increasing importance of digital entertainment as a competitive driver in India’s telecom industry. By bundling three months of complimentary Spotify Premium with eligible postpaid plans, Vi is seeking to enhance customer value, improve subscriber retention and strengthen its position in the premium telecom segment. The offer is available on Vi’s individual postpaid plans priced at Rs. 451, Rs. 551, Rs. 751 and Rs. 1,201 (REDX), along with select family postpaid plans, where the benefit will be available to the primary member.

Customers will receive access to Spotify Premium features including ad-free streaming of more than 100 million songs, offline downloads, over seven million podcast titles, unlimited skips, high-quality audio streaming of up to 320 kbps and complete playback control across devices. Eligible users who have not previously subscribed to Spotify can activate the offer through the Vi App, while continued access after the three-month period will be available through Vi’s “Add to Bill” facility at Rs. 139 per month.Vi Chief Marketing Officer AvneeshKhosla said the partnership reinforces the company’s entertainment ecosystem by combining premium connectivity with digital lifestyle benefits.

Spotify India Managing Director AmarjitBatra described the collaboration as the company’s first-of-its-kind telecom partnership in India, saying it would expand access to premium audio experiences while generating long-term value for artists, creators and the broader music industry. The partnership is expected to resonate in Shillong, where smartphone adoption, mobile internet usage and digital content consumption continue to rise among young consumers and professionals. As telecom operators increasingly compete through bundled value-added services rather than pricing alone, premium entertainment offerings such as Spotify Premium could encourage higher postpaid adoption, improve customer loyalty and support the expansion of the region’s digital economy.
