Sanwaka Surong crowned Miss Meghalaya 2026, Odarica Kamar War wins Miss Teen Meghalaya title

Sanwaka Surong was crowned Miss Meghalaya 2026, while Loretta Laloo finished as the first runner-up and Ameda Giovana Kyndiah secured the second runner-up position. In the teen category, Odarica Kamar War won the title of Miss Teen Meghalaya 2026.

The winners were officially introduced during a media interaction where organisers, contestants, and parents reflected on their journey and experiences throughout the competition.

State Pageant Coordinator Brian Walang said the pageant focused not only on crowning winners but also on helping contestants develop confidence, communication skills, and personality. “We didn’t want this to be just a one-day competition where girls come, get crowned, and leave. During the 14 days of training, the contestants went through different experiences that helped transform the way they think, speak, and carry themselves. Our goal was for every participant to leave having learned something valuable,” he said.

According to organisers, 20 contestants took part in the teen category while 16 competed in the main category, participating in grooming, personality development, and communication sessions.

Speaking about her victory, Sanwaka Surong described the moment as an emotional comeback after stepping away from pageantry for four years. “I have always been a pageant enthusiast and competed in many pageants before, but there was a time I chose to step away because I needed to grow beyond that,” she said.

“I decided to participate again after four long years because I had a strong urge to represent my state on a national level.” She added, “It feels surreal coming back after such a long time. The girls were full of energy, eager and hungry for the crown, and I learned so much from them. This organisation is truly special to me.”

Brian Walang also praised Dr. Tanavi Marak for making Meghalaya proud on a larger stage. “We’ve sent really good girls out before, but they never had that opportunity. But Tanavi being there and going there prepared — even before the competition she already had a huge following and many people believed she should be among the winners. When she was crowned second runner-up, all of us felt extremely proud. She has truly worked hard for this, she gave her heart and soul, and she made Meghalaya proud,” he said.
