Alan West Kharkongor, President of the Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum (MRTF), has strongly condemned the alleged incident of trespassing, violence and assault at the upcoming resort project site of Centrepoint Group in Laitkynsew. In a statement issued on Thursday, Kharkongor described the reported attack on workers as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” stating that violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society.
According to reports, one carpenter sustained serious injuries during the incident and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Kharkongor said Meghalaya has long been recognized for its peaceful and hospitable nature and warned that such incidents could negatively affect investment, tourism and the state’s image. He further stated that Centrepoint Group, as a homegrown enterprise, has contributed significantly towards tourism promotion, infrastructure development and employment generation in Meghalaya. The MRTF president urged the Meghalaya Police and the State Government to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible and take strict legal action irrespective of affiliation.
