Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma chaired a review meeting of the Sericulture Department on Monday, emphasising the need for large-scale projects to transform Mizoram into a major silk-producing State in line with the ‘Viksit Mizoram 2047’ vision.
During the meeting, attended by Sericulture Minister Lalthansanga and top officials, it was highlighted that the government has increased the procurement price of cocoons from Rs 300 to Rs 350 per kg to benefit the State’s 7,040 sericulture farmers.
So far this year, farmers have produced over 53 metric tons of cocoons.
To further support the sector, the Chief Minister directed officials to submit proposals for purchasing refrigerators for silkworm seed storage and to expedite the amendment of recruitment rules to address staff shortages.
The meeting also reviewed various ongoing Central and State-sponsored schemes and lauded two local farmers who recently won prestigious state and national awards for their outstanding contributions to sericulture.
