Meghalaya police mandates CCTV surveillance in hotels, homestays

Meghalaya Police has made it mandatory for all hotels and homestays to install CCTV cameras in common areas and at entry points to enhance security.

Federation of Shillong Hotels president, Parambir Singh Sehdave, confirmed on Monday that the Superintendent of Police (SP) has directed all such establishments to ensure surveillance coverage, with a specific focus on property entrances.

The directive comes as the state’s tourism sector begins to recover from a recent slump.

Sehdave admitted that tourist flow saw a sharp decline following the violence on August 19, with visitor numbers remaining minimal throughout September.

However, he noted that the situation has now stabilised and tourists are returning to the state.
Sehdave informed that hotels are recording strong advance bookings for the coming month, bolstered by a series of events, including the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival.
