
Meghalaya police arrested a cyber fraud from Jaipur, Rajasthan on charges of duping a man from Ri Bhoi district by impersonating as an IPS officer.
Police said the accused impersonated as Vivekanand Singh Rathore, IPS, through a fake social media profile and fraudulently contacted the victim.
The victim then had transferred a certain amount of money thereby being defrauded. Based on the complaint filed by the victim, a case was registered at Nongpoh Police Station under Sections 318(4)/319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita read with Sections 66C/66D of the Information Technology Act.
Following sustained investigation and technical surveillance with internal sources, the accused, Jahul Ali of Kakrali Meo, Alwar, Rajasthan was arrested from Jaipur. The accused is being brought to Nongpoh and further investigation is in progress.
