Meghalaya Government Empowers 1,350 Startups with New Digital Platforms

Meghalaya is taking a decisive step toward becoming a regional hub for innovation, marked by the launch of ‘PRIME IGNITE 2026’. At a high-profile event held at Lok Bhavan to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Day, the state government reinforced its commitment to a citizen-led startup ecosystem. The programme brought together a vibrant mix of student innovators, established entrepreneurs, and state officials, signaling a strategic shift toward structured support and expanded market access for local ventures.

Central to the event was the unveiling of three groundbreaking digital platforms designed to bridge critical gaps in the state’s economy. These include a centralized service provider system to streamline enterprise support, a dedicated e-commerce platform for artisans with disabilities, and a pioneering local delivery application for Upper Shillong. These tools are expected to drastically reduce operational barriers and improve last-mile connectivity for small businesses that have traditionally struggled with market reach.

The scale of the state’s ongoing efforts was reflected in the data shared during the summit. Under the flagship CM ELEVATE programme, nearly 2,847 entrepreneurs have been onboarded, with over 885 entities already receiving direct funding. Furthermore, the PRIME initiative has seen 1,350 startups register, demonstrating a steady and robust expansion of the state’s enterprise network over the last year.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasized that innovation in Meghalaya is a grassroots movement. She noted that the government’s role is to act as a facilitator, stating, “We don’t look at innovation as a chance thing… ideas come from citizens, and the government merely supports.” This support now extends through the entire lifecycle of a venture—from the initial spark of an idea to its eventual entry into the competitive market.

The event also cast a spotlight on the next generation of leaders. Winners of a statewide student ambassador contest, including top-performing teams from the College of Community Science and Jaintia Eastern College, were awarded grants to further their projects. With local startups demonstrating solutions ranging from GIS-based tourism management to healthcare manufacturing, Meghalaya is proving that its youth are ready to solve modern challenges with homegrown ingenuity. Through the combined force of the PRIME and CM ELEVATE initiatives, the state is not just funding businesses; it is building a resilient, tech-enabled future.
