The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday has approved the Meghalaya School Education (School Complex) Rules, 2026, aimed at making transitions between different levels of schooling smoother and reducing admission-related difficulties faced by students.
Meghalaya has 9,244 lower primary schools but only 532 higher secondary schools. This gap often creates difficulties for students seeking admission as they progress through the education system, forcing them to undergo multiple admission procedures when moving from one level to another.
Under the School Complex framework, lower and upper primary schools will be linked with nearby secondary and higher secondary schools to facilitate smoother transitions between classes and reduce administrative hurdles for students.
The initiative will also help establish a stronger network of nodal and model schools across blocks, subdivisions and districts, with the objective of expanding access to quality secondary education across Meghalaya.
