The Indian side won both the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup with leg-spinner Piyush Chawla. Chawla has declared his retirement from all cricket-related activities. Using his Instagram account, the 36-year-old declared his intention to retire from cricket. It’s time to say goodbye to the beautiful game after more than 20 years on the field. Every moment of this amazing journey, from playing at the top level for India to being a member of the winning teams in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, has been nothing short of a blessing. I shall always carry these memories close to my heart.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings for believing in me. I have loved every second of playing in the Indian Premier League, which has been a very memorable chapter in my career,” Chawla stated. From 2006 to 2012, Chawla represented India in three Test matches, twenty-five ODIs, and seven T20Is, taking a total of forty-three wickets. His final spell with the Mumbai Indians, which lasted from 2022 to 2024, saw him take 192 wickets in as many IPL games. He also played for the 2014 IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders.
