Chief Minister Conrad Sangma Announces NEIINFRA Summit as Meghalaya’s Economy Booms

Meghalaya is gearing up to host the prestigious North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition (NEIINFRA) in Shillong on June 11 and 12. This high-profile event is set to bring together top policymakers, global investors, financial institutions, and industry leaders to map out the future of infrastructure expansion, regional connectivity, and investment opportunities across the northeastern states.

Announcing the summit, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted the state’s remarkable economic trajectory, noting that Meghalaya’s economy has doubled over the past five years. Furthermore, capital investment has increased fourfold since 2018. Sangma emphasized that this sustained growth has drastically strengthened investor confidence, positioning Meghalaya as one of the fastest-growing economies in India. He credited the state’s aggressive industrial promotion policy, which offers lucrative incentives, as a primary catalyst for attracting private capital.

The Chief Minister also shed light on the state’s thriving technology and entrepreneurship sectors. He revealed that Meghalaya’s first IT park is currently operating at full capacity, while a second upcoming IT park is already drawing substantial interest from both national and international corporations.

Supporting the initiative, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary at the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, affirmed the central government’s commitment to driving infrastructure-led growth and regional integration. He praised the Meghalaya government for its proactive role in accelerating local development.

With a core focus on transport networks, urban infrastructure, digital connectivity, and strategic investment partnerships, the summit aims to firmly establish the Northeast as an emerging economic and trade hub.
