Heavy storms accompanied by rain caused widespread destruction across Tripura between April 28 and 29, leaving one person dead, two others injured and thousands of families affected in several districts of the state.According to figures released by the State Emergency Operation Centre in Agartala, a total of 4,191 houses were damaged during the storm and heavy rainfall that lashed different parts of the state over two days.Officials said the damage included 195 houses that were completely destroyed, 547 houses that suffered severe damage and 3,449 houses that were partially damaged due to strong winds, falling trees and heavy rainfall.The weather-related destruction affected several districts and subdivisions across the state, forcing authorities to open relief camps and begin emergency r...

The state government has empaneled a team to study concerns raised by 108 emergency services workers demanding for government takeover. Informing this on Wednesday, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said, “108 staff have their own sets of concerns, and the government also has its own limitation.” A delegation of the 108 emergency services workers met the minister to pursue their demands. According to the minister, both sides have constraints. “We have empaneled one team to do some kind of a study on how we can accommodate them, how we can look after their concerns,” the minister said. An interstate ATM theft racket operating across multiple states has been busted following the arrest of six persons linked to a break-in at a banking outlet in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district, police said. According to investigators, the accused were involved in a theft at an ATM belonging to Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank on April 5, 2024. The gang allegedly used gas cutters to break open the ATM safe before fleeing with cash within minutes. A newborn baby girl was rescued by a schoolboy on the morning of April 27 after she was allegedly buried alive in a village in Ri-Bhoi district.
