Forest Department and DC Kurbah calls for weak trees to be addressed before monsoon

In order to detect and remove structurally unsound trees that endanger life and property, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner R.M. Kurbah has instructed the Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) to hasten a citywide rekie as the monsoon approaches. In reference to the frequent risk of trees collapsing during periods of intense rain, Kurbah stated, "We wrote to the DFO (Territorial) in February to do a rekie of the entire city and identify weak trees." "We have requested that the required action be taken and that a report be submitted as soon as possible." She explained that "rampant cutting of trees is not allowed" due to a High Court decision, citing ancient and susceptible tree species as serious concerns. MBOSE to declare HSSLC results on May 5

The results of Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations, 2025 for Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational streams conducted by Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) will be declared on May 5. Informing this on Friday, TR Laloo, Director, Accreditation and Controller of Examinations, MBoSE, said the result booklet can be downloaded from the Board’s official website www.mbose.in and that there will be no display of results both in Tura and Shillong offices.

Meghalaya to upgrade 17 schools, add 137 teaching posts to tackle class 11 seat shortage

The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a major education infrastructure upgrade to address the acute shortage of Class 11 seats in the state. The move comes after this year’s high Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) pass rate led to a shortfall of nearly 12,000 seats. State government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said the cabinet has cleared a proposal to upgrade six government secondary schools into higher secondary schools. Additionally, 11 existing higher secondary schools will introduce new academic streams to expand their intake capacity. “To support this academic expansion, the government will create 137 new teaching posts,” Lyngdoh stated. The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday launched an indefinite sit-in outside the administrative block of NEIGRIHMS, expressing dissatisfaction with the institute’s inaction on a list of thier own demands, that does not come under the purview of state of any student body. The State Cabinet on Thursday approved the Vehicle Scrappage Policy, under which some 13,000 vehicles will be off the roads in the first phase. “We will now start addressing concerns relating to air pollution caused by inefficient and old vehicles.
