HSPDP president KP Pangiang has reaffirmed the party's push for a separate Meghalaya cadre and a separate Khasi-Jaintia State, alongside GNC's Garoland demand. He said CM Conrad is pursuing the cadre issue with the Centre. A delegation will soon protest at Jantar Mantar. HSPDP will not contest MLA or MDC polls in Garo Hills, staying focused on its statehood agenda. A one-man committee appointed by the Meghalaya High Court has confirmed the continuation of illegal coal mining in East Jaintia Hills district and pulled the district police for failing to detect ongoing operations despite prior complaints and video evidence. In its 34th interim report, the committee said no SP or police representative attended its November 20 meeting, even though officials of the district administrarion, Coal India and MSTC participated. The Meghalaya government has renamed Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan, officials said on Thursday. The change comes in the wake of instructions from the home ministry on renaming Raj Bhavans across the country as Lok Bhavan and Raj Niwas as Lok Niwas. In a notification issued here, Principal Secretary to the Governor, HC Chaudhary, said the change was made in pursuance of a Home Ministry memo dated November 25, 2025. “Henceforth, Raj Bhavan be referred to only as Lok Bhavan, Shillong,” the notification said, making the name change effective immediately.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma announced that his party will participate in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, inviting interested candidates to apply for the nomination.
