Assam government aims to extends food security to 2.5 crore people

Assam Government has taken a crucial step to extend nutritional coverage to 70 percentage, estimated 2.5 crore plus of the population in the state. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, in Assam is 2,51,89,775 and on January, 42 lakh new beneficiaries were again added. Assam CM informed, the entire extended process will get completed by November. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said, "With addition of the new 17 lakh+ beneficiaries along with almost 2 lakh NRC deleted beneficiaries and people under State pool; over 2.5cr people will be entitled to free food grains by 2025 following the Antyodaya approach of serving the poor and marginalised.”

Gaurav Gogoi raises concern over environmental impact of infrastructure projects in Assam

Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has expressed his concern on infrastructural projects that are about to take place which will go through deforestation and lead to environmental impact. According to the sources, Assam Government has proposed Digholi Pukhuri-Noonmati flyover in Guwahati. Cutting down of trees for the projects will pose significant challenges both for the locals and the environment as it will harm the region's green cover, air will be polluted and flood hit will raise high. A release by Gaurav Gogoi reads, "Gogoi called for an environmental impact assessment (EIA) and urged the government to consult with environmental experts and local communities to ensure sustainable and responsible development."
