10 MT of black pepper from the southwest Garo Hills was delivered to Mumbai

Ten metric tons of locally cultivated black pepper were sent from Chapahati Prime Hub to Mumbai tonight, marking a significant milestone for the farmers of the South West Garo Hills. The Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBMA) and M-LAMP assisted the Kerupara and Dingampara Integrated Village Cooperative Societies (IVCS) under Zikzak block in facilitating the cargo. This is the district’s second significant shipment; the first was 11 tons of black pepper supplied to Mumbai by Dimiligre IVCS in 2023. Dingampara IVCS collected 3,400 kg of black pepper at a slightly lower rate of ₹610 per kg due to quality assessment discrepancies, whereas Kerupara IVCS donated 6,600 kg, which was purchased at ₹640 per kg for the current shipment.

The Am’beng Farmers & Producers Association organized the farming community, while Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak made sure that logistics ran well. Together, these efforts led to the successful dispatch. Bravantyo K. Marak, MBMA’s marketing executive, was instrumental in keeping the buyers informed at all times. The directors of Sundardas Ratansey Spice Pvt. Ltd., Satish Dharamsey Pallicha and Kalind Satish Pallicha, have confirmed that the black pepper from South West Garo Hills will be supplied to Everest Masala & Everest Food Products, one of India’s top spice brands renowned for its extensive distribution and exports, according to Grikseng Ch. Marak, District Project Manager of MBMA.
