Vodafone Idea (Vi) has expanded its prepaid portfolio through an exclusive partnership with Spotify, launching three recharge plans that bundle Spotify Premium at no additional cost, a strategic move aimed at increasing customer retention and driving higher engagement in India’s fast-growing digital entertainment economy.
The new offerings include the Rs. 435 Non-Stop Hero prepaid plan with unlimited 4G/5G data, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day, JioHotstar (Mobile) and Spotify Premium for 28 days. The Rs. 250 prepaid plan provides 2GB data, unlimited calls, 300 SMS and Spotify Premium, while the Rs. 230 add-on pack offers 30GB high-speed data along with Spotify Premium and access to over 20 OTT platforms, including JioHotstar, ZEE5, SonyLIV, FanCode and Lionsgate Play, all with 28-day validity. Customers can activate Spotify Premium through the Vi App by claiming the benefit after recharging with an eligible pack using an existing or new Spotify account.
From an economic perspective, the partnership reflects the telecom sector’s increasing shift from competing solely on tariffs to building digital content ecosystems that encourage higher customer loyalty and average revenue per user (ARPU). By integrating premium music, OTT entertainment and high-data benefits into a single recharge, Vi is seeking to create greater value for prepaid subscribers while differentiating its offerings in a highly competitive market. The move also underscores the growing importance of partnerships between telecom operators and digital content platforms in monetising rising mobile data consumption across India.
The launch is expected to find strong traction in Shillong, where a young, digitally connected population and a vibrant music culture have contributed to increasing demand for premium streaming services. Affordable bundled plans combining Spotify Premium, OTT access and generous data benefits could appeal to students, professionals and music enthusiasts, strengthening Vi’s competitiveness in Meghalaya’s capital. As smartphone usage and digital entertainment consumption continue to expand in the region, such value-added offerings are likely to support customer acquisition, improve retention and contribute to the broader digital economy in Shillong.
