Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on an important five-nation diplomatic tour from May 15, 2026, with the first stop being United Arab Emirates (UAE) for high-level talks with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting is likely to focus on strengthening the energy security of the two countries in a region with geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Officials said India and the UAE were poised to sign two landmark pacts on long-term Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies and deepening cooperation on strategic petroleum reserves. The pacts are considered an important step to guarantee a steady energy supply chain, especially as India tries to steer through the volatilities of the global market.
The visit will also be an opportunity to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which covers deep economic, technological and cultural ties beyond energy. “The UAE is a major supplier of India’s crude oil, LNG and LPG and the talks will cement this strong bilateral relationship. The Prime Minister is expected to address the welfare of the Indian diaspora in the UAE, which comprises 4.5 million people and is a major link between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi is on a diplomatic tour after Abu Dhabi and will visit the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy to increase India’s global footprint in trade, innovation and strategic cooperation.
