TVS Motor Company has outlined strategic plans to expand its electric two-wheeler manufacturing capacity to 80,000 units per month by the end of March 2027, responding directly to robust demand for electric scooters. Chief Executive Officer KN Radhakrishnan informed investors that the company is currently operating at a monthly production level of roughly 60,000 to 65,000 units, with the next phase of scaling already mapped out to reach the 80,000-unit threshold. This capacity augmentation arrives as electric vehicle adoption accelerates across India, with overall two-wheeler EV penetration reaching 11 to 12 per cent while surpassing 20 per cent within the scooter segment. TVS Motor’s aggressive push reflects broader competitive movements across the sector, as major rivals like Bajaj Auto similarly aim to scale Chetak production capacity to 80,000 units, while Ather Energy expands its existing plant to over 41,000 units alongside constructing a new production facility. Underlining its strong execution, TVS Motor reported that its electric two-wheeler sales more than doubled during the second quarter, rising to 1,86,186 units from 80,009 units recorded in the corresponding period last year. On the domestic front, the company achieved a stellar 129 per cent surge in Q2 EV sales, significantly outstripping the overall industry growth rate of 84 per cent. Radhakrishnan noted that the electric two-wheeler sector expanded by nearly 75 per cent during the first half of the financial year, expressing confidence that the company will continue to outperform broader market growth while maintaining strong sales momentum into the second half. The upcoming manufacturing expansion is designed to support TVS Motor’s trajectory as electric vehicle adoption stays strong, even as management anticipates volume growth in traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers to moderate in H2 due to a high base effect.
