The Chief Minister of Meghalaya inaugurated a new bridge and improved road infrastructure in the West Garo Hills

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has ushered in a new era in the connectivity landscape of Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district. Recently, during a colorful ceremony, he inaugurated a newly constructed bridge and several projects involving the renovation and development of key roads in the region. The fulfillment of this long-standing demand has sparked immense enthusiasm and excitement among the local residents. In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized that robust connectivity infrastructure is indispensable for keeping the wheels of the rural economy turning and for enhancing the standard of living of the common people. This new bridge will not merely connect two localities; it will also play a pivotal role in enabling local farmers to transport their produce to markets swiftly and in making emergency healthcare services more accessible.

These projects were executed under the Meghalaya government’s ‘Infrastructure Development’ initiative. The Chief Minister stated that his administration is committed to extending road connectivity to every corner of the state, and these projects in the West Garo Hills constitute an integral part of that broader vision. Thanks to this improved road network, both travel time and costs in this remote hilly terrain are expected to decrease significantly henceforth. During the inaugural ceremony, he commended the local administration for their efforts and urged the public to ensure the proper maintenance of these public assets. It is anticipated that the development of these roads and the bridge will also provide fresh momentum to the expansion of the tourism sector. The government firmly believes that this modern infrastructure will serve as a strong foundation for the holistic economic transformation of the West Garo Hills in the years to come. This new bridge now stands as a symbol of prosperity for the region.
