The Central Government is giving serious consideration to the proposal for an alternative broad gauge railway line for Barak Valley.
In response to a memorandum submitted by BJP MP Sushmita Dev Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that the proposed alternative railway line project is under process. He also stated that there is a possibility of an investment of around Rs 15,000 crore for it.
Sushmita Dev said that the demand for an alternative broad gauge railway line has now become a necessity for the people of Barak Valley. Welcoming the Railway Minister’s response, the MP expressed hope that the proposed project will gain momentum soon.
Meanwhile, Sushmita Dev added that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been raising the issue of the proposed alternative railway line with the Central Government. Public representatives from Barak Valley have also been consistently following up on the matter for the proposed alternative railway line.
The proposed route is being considered as an important infrastructure initiative to strengthen rail connectivity in Barak Valley and to create alternative links in the region’s transport system. The potential investment of around Rs 15,000 crore also highlights the large scale and significance of the project.
