Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government will examine the fundraising and utilisation methods of 72 YouTubers who collected aid during the recent floods.
The main objective of this move is to ensure transparency in the funds collected from the public and to prevent duplication in the distribution of aid among flood-affected people.
The Chief Minister said that the police Cyber Cell is monitoring whether the relief funds collected by YouTubers from both within and outside Assam have actually been used properly in the state’s flood-affected areas.
To prevent repetitive aid distribution in the same flood-hit areas from multiple sources, the government has decided to collect these details.
The Chief Minister also praised the efforts of volunteers including local YouTuber Samay Gogoi of ‘Project Golden Assam’.
After the proper audit is completed, the actual aid providers will be honoured by the state government with a traditional Assamese gamosa.
The state government has clarified that this measure is not intended to harass anyone, but has been taken to ensure that the public’s donations reach the flood victims in the right way.
