Meghalaya Police have arrested six accused for allegedly creating a ruckus and causing damage at a homestay. Of the six, three are adults and three are minors. All of them were later released on bail after being produced in court.
On July 11, the management of a homestay named ‘Oko’ located in Risa Colony, Shillong, filed a complaint with the police. According to the complaint, several people threatened the homestay staff and caused extensive damage to property. The accused fled the spot without paying compensation.
Launching an investigation into the incident, police in East Khasi Hills District carried out an operation with the assistance of Assam Police. With help from Kokrajhar, Alipurduar and Sapatgram Police, Bikash Singh, Abhinash Singh and Akand Pratap Singh, along with three 17-year-old minors, were detained in Alipurduar.
Later, Meghalaya Police took all of them into custody and produced them before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Alipurduar. Since the sections invoked against the accused carry a punishment of less than seven years, the court granted bail to the three adults. The three minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
A case has been registered under Sections 351(3), 324(3) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to police, although the accused have been granted bail, the investigation will continue and the process of filing a chargesheet in court will be completed soon.
