
The Saitual District Drugs Disposal Committee on Friday destroyed narcotic substances worth more than Rs 60.57 crore in a major anti-drug disposal exercise conducted at the incinerator of Champhai District Hospital.The destruction of the seized drugs was carried out in accordance with legal procedures to ensure the safe disposal of confiscated narcotics while preventing any environmental hazards.Deputy Inspector General of Police C. Lalnunmawia attended the programme and commended the Saitual District Executive Force (DEF) for its dedicated efforts in detecting drug-related offences and seizing illegal narcotics. He said the police personnel had shown commitment in the fight against drug trafficking and stressed that close coordination among different government departments and districts was essential to effectively tackle the drug menace.
The disposal programme was attended by Superintendent of Police, Champhai, Lokeshwaran; Saitual Superintendent of Police and Chairman of the District Drug Disposal Committee, Vivek Maurya; SDO (Sadar), Saitual, Tharun Patnaik Mandala; SDPO, Saitual, Hmingthansanga; and Assistant Commissioner (Excise), Saitual, Lalhmingthanga. Medical staff from Champhai District Hospital, along with police officers and personnel from the Champhai and Saitual District Executive Forces, were also present. During the exercise, authorities destroyed *9.163 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth around **Rs 18.32 crore, and **52.817 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at approximately **Rs 42.25 crore*.
The total value of the narcotics destroyed was estimated at *Rs 60,57,96,000*. Officials said the seized drugs were incinerated following the prescribed legal process at the Champhai District Hospital incinerator to ensure their complete destruction without causing environmental pollution.The disposal exercise forms part of the state’s continuing efforts to curb the trafficking and circulation of illegal narcotic substances while ensuring that seized contraband is disposed of in a safe, transparent and legally compliant manner.
