Mizoram defeated the Meghalaya U-20 football team 4-0 in the national semifinal

The Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship 2025 ended abruptly for Meghalaya on May 25 as they were defeated 4-0 by Mizoram in the second semifinal in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. Meghalaya had not played in almost two weeks, despite the fact that both teams had won all of their prior games. Since the league is staggered, with only two groups operational at any given time, Meghalaya had to wait until the final two sets of group matches and the fourth and final quarterfinal after winning their quarterfinal.

Meghalaya hadn’t played since May 9, but Mizoram had a lot of energy going into yesterday’s match because they had just defeated Punjab in their quarterfinal on Friday. Mizoram defeated Meghalaya’s full-strength squad under coach Bobby L. Nongbet thanks to goals from Mesak C. Lalrinngheta (28′, 76′), Dantes K. Lalhriatpuia (83′), and F. Vanlalchhanchhuaha (90’+2). In contrast to the 2024 campaign, when Meghalaya had failed to go past the group stage, this year’s campaign saw a significant improvement, albeit losing in the semifinals. In the 2025 edition, they defeated Karnataka 1-0 in the quarterfinals after defeating Rajasthan 4-0, Kerala 2-1, and Bihar 7-0 in the group stage.
