The Meghalaya government has estimated an expenditure of around Rs 600 crore for hosting the 39th National Games next year.
Speaking to reporters, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla informed that the National Games Committee has projected the overall cost of organising the multi-sport event at approximately Rs 600 crore. He added that proposals have already been submitted to the Union Government seeking financial assistance for the event.
Despite the ongoing monsoon season, the minister said construction and infrastructure development are progressing as planned. He expressed confidence that all the required facilities would be completed by December or January, well ahead of the Games.
Meghalaya is scheduled to host the 39th National Games in March next year, with several sporting disciplines expected to be held in other Northeastern states as co-hosts.
On the issue of overseas exposure for athletes, Shylla said sports associations have the option of sending players abroad for training and competitions if they wish. He noted that such exposure programmes help athletes gain valuable experience by competing with high-level sportspersons and improving their performance.
