The Meghalaya Government has suspended all officially funded foreign visits by Ministers, MLAs and government officials for six months as part of an
austerity drive.
Eight proposed overseas study tours involving around 63-68 officials have been deferred to prioritise public expenditure and development
commitments.
In a notification, the govt said, “In public interest and for complying with austerity measures, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to order that all official foreign visits of Ministers of the Government of Meghalaya, MLAs and officials (permanent or contractual) of the State Government shall be kept on hold for a period of 6 months with effect from the date of issue of this order.”
It further saud that the order will cover all foreign visits that are to be borne by the Government of Meghalaya.
However, this order will not cover those visits which are borne entirely by the Central Government or borne entirely by Multilateral Development Banks which are permitted after obtaining the political clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
This order shall apply to all permanent and contractual Government employees.
