Meghalaya Secretariat Set to Move to New Shillong by March 2027

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced in the Assembly that the state government plans to relocate the Meghalaya Secretariat to a new complex in Mawkhanu, New Shillong, by March 2027. He noted that approximately 30% of the civil work on the complex has been completed within the first three months of construction. This move aims to alleviate congestion in Shillong city and enhance administrative efficiency. The Chief Minister also discussed other significant infrastructure projects, including the Integrated Administrative Complex in Tura, the PM Unity Mall, the Wahumkhrah Riverfront Development project, and the Tura Convention Centre, all projected for completion within one to two years. Additionally, the Meghalaya Skill Innovation Hub, valued at around Rs 102 crore, has begun construction, and Phase II of the Shillong Technology Park is set for inauguration soon. These initiatives are part of the government’s strategy to transform the New Shillong area into a major administrative, technological, and economic center for the state.
